Blocks #8 & #9...and a visitor

I've finished blocks #8 and #9 of the Vintage Memories BoM and started assembling the setting blocks...my deadline is coming closer and I might not meet it...because my least favourite part about quiltmaking (if I had to name it) is to assemble the blocks to the quilt top...so I tend to procrastinate when I reach this point...but I do love the result though ;o).

Die Blöcke 8 und 9 sind mittlerweile fertig und auch die Setting Blocks habe ich schon genäht. Die Deadline kommt immer näher und ich befürchte, es könnte eng werden...das Zusammennähen der einzelnen Blöcke ist nämlich nicht gerade mein Lieblingsschritt beim Nähen von Quilts (wenn es eine Sache gibt, die ich dabei nicht soo gerne mag - außer dem Rückwärtsnähen (= Auftrennen) - dann das...und so kommt es nicht selten vor, dass ich es öfters ein bisschen vor mir her schiebe ;o).

 Who said that you're on your own while sewing!? - I had an obstrusive little visitor, who really liked my Nina...again and again ;o). I had to escort him (her?) outside, because friendly words had no effect!

Wer sagt, dass man beim Nähen allein ist!? - Ich hatte einen kleinen penetranten Besucher, der total auf meine Nina geflogen ist - immer wieder ;o). Ich musste ihn (sie?) schließlich persönlich hinausbegleiten, da halfen keine freundlichen Worte!

Knock, knock? {*Alert: Giveaway included*}

Klopf-klopf, noch jemand hier??? Ich weiß, ich habe viiiel zu lange nichts mehr von mir hören lassen und mit jedem Tag, der wieder ohne einen Post zu Ende ging ist mein schlechtes Gewissen ins Unendliche gewachsen ...dabei gibt es so vieles, das ich Euch zeigen möchte...nur eben immer noch viel zu wenig Zeit, das auch zu tun. Naja, mit dem Nachhol-Marathon werde ich es so halten, wie mit dem Essen von Elefanten: Stück für Stück! ;o)

Anybody still out there? I know I've been absent for too long...and with every day not-blogging my bad conscience grew bigger and bigger... and there's so much I have to show you, and still not so much time to do it...so, regarding the catch-up-marathon, I'll stick with a wise advice on how to eat an elephant - piece by piece ;o).

Am Freitag habe ich meinen {grummelgrummel}undzwanzigsten Geburtstag gefeiert und viiieeele schöne Geschenke von Familie und Freunden bekommen. Ich zeige sie Euch demnächst, aber heute gibt es einige Fotos der Geschenke, die ich mir selbst gemacht habe ;o).

On Friday, it was my twenty{mumblemumble} th birthday, and I got soooo many beautiful gifts from friends & family! I'll soon show them, but today I have some pictures of the gifts I made myself ;o).

Da ich ja ein Prinzessin-spielendes, Rosa-liebendes, Sandschlösser-bauendes Kind war, konnte ich einfach nicht widerstehen, und habe mir einen Sandburg-Kuchen gebacken {das Ding sah nicht nur cool aus, sondern schmeckte auch ziemlich gut, wenn ich mich mal selbst loben darf}.

You know, having been the princess-y, pink-y, sandcastle-building kind of girl, I just couldn't resist to bake this one for me {it not only looked cute, but it was delicious, if I dare say so}.

Einige Tage vor *meinem* Tag ist ein ganz besonderes Paket bei mir angekommen: eine Bunny Hill-Box voll mit Schätzen.
Bei Anne waren vor einiger Zeit ihre 'Chelsea Manor' Stoffe reduziert und da konnte ich mich einfach nicht mehr zurückhalten und musste dieses schöne Fat Quarter Türmchen mein Eigen machen. Ich weiß schon, was ich damit tun werde (muss mir nur noch ein bisschen Zeit kaufen...). Außerdem gab es bei ihr das perfekte Ric Rac (Zackenlitze) in genau dem richtigen Farbton für meinen 'A Tisket A Tasket BOM' Quilt {ähem, bei dem hinke ich gnadenlos hinterher...}. Es ist so schön verpackt, dass ich bis jetzt noch nicht über mich gebracht habe, es auszupacken - die Stöffchen sind ebenso original gebündelt, ich schmule nur zwischen den Bändern immer mal wieder rein *g*.
Einige von Euch wissen vielleicht, dass Brigette diese alten Spulen aufgetan hatte - und die Spulen über den BunnyHill-Shop auch zu erwerben waren. Ich hatte darum gebeten, meine Bestellung so lange zurückzuhalten, bis die Spulen gelistet wären, so dass ich mir ein paar davon kaufen könnte. Anne hat sich nicht daran gehalten, sondern hat mir *einfach so* zwei der Spulen in mein Päckchen getan und mir geschrieben, dass sie einfach nicht anders konnte! Danke, ich liebe sie & es war ein perfektes Vor-Geburtstagsgeschenk!
Übrigens, das kleine Kaninchen hat sich einfach so ins Foto gedrängt, es konnte doch den Stoff-Bunnies nicht den ganzen Ruhm überlassen...

Then, some days before *my* day, a very special package arrived in my home: a Bunny Hill box full of treasures. When Anne had a sale for her adorable 'Chelsea Manor' fabrics, I just couldn't resist any longer and had to order that gorgeous not-so little stack of fabrics. I already have some ideas for what to do with them. Then there was the giant ric rac in exactly the perfect shade of peach-y pink for the 'A Tisket, A Tasket BOM' quilt {on which I am terribly behind!}. It's so beautifully wrapped, I couldn't tear the package open yet...
Some of you might know that Brigette found some gorgeous vintage spools and Anne sold them via the Bunny Hill website. When I ordered the fabrics I asked for keeping the order back until the spools were listed so I could get some of them. Well, she didn't wait, but put two of them in my box {she said she couldn't help herself}! Thank you, Anne! I love them & it was a great pre-birthday present!
The bunny just sneaked into the picture, it couldn't let the fabric bunnies stealing all the show!

Ich heiße Julia und mein aktuelles Lieblingsbuch ist "Quilts From The Henry Ford", da es wunderschöne antike Quilts - v. a. 2-Farben- oder Rot/Grün-Quilts - zusammen mit ein paar interessanten Informationen beinhaltet {falls jemand von Euch ein gutes Buch über antike Quilts mit schönen Fotos und auch gerne viel Text ;o) kennt, wäre ich für einen Tipp dankbar!}.
An Tilda mag ich diese weiche, frische Atmosphäre die all die 'Stehrümchen' schaffen. Vor allem die Rosen aus "Sew Pretty Homestyle" finde ich schön, werde davon aber in naher Zukunft keine mehr nähen ~ meine Fingerspitzen protestieren schon alleine bei dem Gedanken daran ;o).

I'm Julia and my most favourite quilting book currently is "Quilts from the Henry Ford". I love it because of the variety of beautiful antique quilts, especially the two colour quilts and red-green quilts {btw, are there some books about antique quilts you can recommend???}.
I love all things Tilda because of the soft, fresh feeling those small things give you - the roses in "Sew Pretty Homestyle" are one of my favourite items, but I think I won't make any more of them in the near future - my fingers are still protesting just by the thought of it ;o).

Nothing to declare

Der Februar ist fast vorbei und ich habe nicht ein einziges Projekt für die OPaM Challenge vorzuweisen. Hmpf. War auch etwas schwierig dieses Wochenende, denn ich war in HH zu einer Einweihungsparty eingeladen. Ich habe die Gelegenheit auch gleich genutzt! - Nein, leider nicht um das Quilthouse zu besuchen...ich war mit nicht-quiltigen Freunden dort ;o)...sondern in der Hamburger Kunsthalle und habe mir die Degas-Austellung mit meiner Freundin angeschaut {während die anderen Hälften sich anderweitig beschäftigen durften ~ es war also doch ein bisschen so, als wären wir in Sachen Stöffchen unterwegs *g*}.
February is nearly gone and I haven't any project for the OPaM Challenge to show. Hmpf. Admittedly, it was a bit dificult to sew this weekend because I went to Hamburg to a housewarming party of my friend's boyfriend.
I used the opportunity and - no, didn't visit any quiltshop...after all, I went together with totally non-quilty peeps ;o) - instead I enjoyed the Degas exhibition in the Hamburger Kunsthalle with my friend K. {while our significant others had to wait for us ~ on that score it somehow was like quilt shop hopping *g*}.

Nebenan war noch eine ganz verrückte Ausstellung: Schnaken in Über-Menschengröße... mit Hosenträgern...hihi, Sachen gibt's.
Next door, there were exhibited some strange creatures: crane flies, larger than humans...and with suspenders...teehee...some people have really strange fantasies...

Noch eins...ich liebe Hamburg! Es ist viel lustiger, dort U-Bahn zu fahren...sie haben dort zwar die falschen Farben für die U-Bahn-Linien ;o) - aber viel lustigere Ortsnamen!
One last thing...I love Hamburg! It's much mor fun to take the underground than here..although they chose the "wrong" colours for their lines ;o), there are much more funny names {they are hard to translate...but one of them Schlump, is nearly the German word for smurf...and Mümmelmann is a nonstandard expression for hare..."mümmeln" an onomatopoeic verb for eating his carrot...}!

Hi there... {Valentine's Day Summary}

Wie war Euer Wochenende? Ich hoffe, Euer Valentinstag war schön - meiner war es...ich habe ihn hauptsächlich in der Küche mit schnibbeln & kochen verbracht - während Holger die Wohnung 'poliert' hat...wir hatten am Abend Freunde zum Essen eingeladen...zufällig eben ein Valentins-Dinner ;o).
Dementsprechend hab ich am Wochenende auch nichts sticheln können :( - blöd...aber man kann ja nicht immer alles haben. Ich dachte, ich zeige Euch ein paar Fotos. Schade, dass es noch kein Geschmacks-Internet gibt, sonst hättet Ihr das selbstgemachte Krokanteis probieren können...Holger konnte es nicht lassen und hat ein bisschen mit Karamell gespielt, so dass wir sogar eine schicke Deko für den Nachtisch hatten...

How was your weekend? I hope your Valentine's day was nice - I had a great day...spent most of the day in the kitchen cutting and cooking - while DH 'polished' our appartment... We had friends for dinner on that evening...coincidentially to a Valentine's dinner ;o).

So there was little to no time for stitching :( - didn't like it...but you can't always have everything. I thought to share some pictures with you though. Too bad that there isn't any gustatory internet yet...if there were I could share the selfmade hazelnut brittle ice cream...Holger had to play with caramel so we even had a fancy decoration for dessert...

Horrible...

Ihr habt ja sicher auch schon alle von den furchtbaren Bushfires in Victoria, Australien gehört. Die zahlreichen Feuer vernichten ganz Städte, bedrohen Existenzen - Menschen und Tiere - und die Zahl der durch die Feuer getöteten steigt immer noch...mir fehlen ein bisschen die richtigen Worte...ich glaube, ich kann es gar nicht richtig begreifen, wie schrecklich es sein muss... aber ich möchte helfen. Zumindest ein ganz kleines bisschen...

You all know by now about the horrible bushfires in Victoria, Australia. The noumerous fires erase entire towns, threaten existences - both, human and animal - and the number of those who lost the battle against the fires is still increasing...I'm still at loss for the right words...I think I can't really understand how dreadful it must be... but I want to help. At least a tiny bit...

Daher war ich froh, als ich über Johns Blog einen Link zu Tias flickr-group "Bushfire Quilt Project" gefunden habe. Tia sammelt 12" Stern-Blöcke aller Art um daraus Spendenquilts zu nähen. Und noch besser, Alda @ aldas gepatches und gesticktes sammelt die Blöcke und schickt sie dann zusammen an Tia ~ Danke, Alda, für Dein Engagement!
This is why I was glad to find a link to Tia's flickr group "Bushfire Quilt Project" via John's blog. Tia collects 12" star blocks of all kind to make donation quilts. And even better, the lovely Alda @ aldas gepatchtes und gesticktes wants to collect Blocks from German quilters and then send them in a bunch to Tia ~ Thank you, Alda, for your engagement!
Ich hatte gestern Abend mit zwei Sternen angefangen - Anleitung herausgesucht {"Double Treats" von Bunny Hill Designs für den DMBOM 2008}, in Stöffchen gestöbert, zugeschnitten... Und dann machte mein Bügeleisen "PLING" und es gab seinen Geist auf. Glücklicherweise wurde ich an das Reisebügeleisen erinnert, welches mir meine Tante vermacht hat... also konnte ich die Blöcke doch noch vollenden.
I began yesterday evening with two stars - searched for a pattern {"Double Treats" by Bunny Hill Designs for the DMBOM 2008}, searched my stash, cut the patches... And then my iron made "PLING" and gave up the ghost. Fortunately I was remembered (thanks, Mom!) of a travel iron, which my aunt gave me some time ago...so I could finally finish the blocks.

Can't-find-a-proper-title-Post

Oh, schon wieder ist eine Woche vergangen. Eigentlich wollte ich ja schon am Wochenende einen neuen Eintrag schreiben, aber nachdem ich bei Sharon gelesen habe, dass Marlene (Pincushion Diaries) leider verstorben ist, war mir irgendwie nicht danach, über WIPs & WISPs zu schreiben. Das war also eine kleine Schweige-Woche für Mar... die ich - wenn auch nur über E-Mails - als einen sehr lieben, offenen und fröhlichen, kreativen Menschen kennen gelernt habe...

Oh, another week has passed by. Initially I wanted to post again last weekend, but after learning from Sharon that Marlene (Pincushion Diaries) had passed away I somehow couldn't write about WIPs & WISPs. So, this was kind of a week's silence for Mar...whom I - if only through e-mails - got to know as a nice, open, happy, creative woman...
Gestern habe ich dafür einen umso netteren Tag gehabt: ich habe mit mit Jutta von Stoff und Nadel treffen dürfen. Ich bin ja immer so aufgeregt, Blogger/Quilter in persona kennen zu lernen {es kommt ja nicht alle Tage vor...}. Wir haben uns bei Hobby und Handarbeiten (Planet Patchwork) getroffen, und ich habe die Gelegenheit genutzt, meine "verstickten" Garne für den Leanne's House BOM aufzustocken...natürlich ist es dabei nicht geblieben. Ich habe mir noch Sashing- und Borderstoffe für den 'A Tisket A Tasket' BOM von Anne Sutton von Bunnyhill Designs gekauft {ich hoffe nur, sie werden reichen...naja, ansonsten weiß ich ja, wo ich sie finde ;o)} und...ups...ein ungeplantes Stückchen Stoff ist noch in meine Tasche gehüpft...und nach langem Überlegen habe ich mir schließlich noch einen Hera-Marker zum Stift-losen Markieren von Quiltlinien gegönnt. Anschließend sind Jutta und ich noch ins Café gegangen für ein mini Show and Tell und natürlich ganz viel Geschnatter...Ich habe gar nicht bemerkt, wie schnell die Stunden vergangen sind ;o).

Liebe Jutta, danke dass ich Dich kennen lernen durfte! Ich hoffe, das war nicht das letzte Treffen ;o)

Yesterday my day was so much better: I met Jutta @ Stoff und Nadel. I'm always so excited to meet fellow blogger/quilter because that doesn't happen often... We met at a local quiltshop and I used the opportunity to stock up on embroidery thread to be able to continue one of my WISPs (Leanne's House BOM). Besides that, I bought some fabric that I plan to use as sashing & border fabric for the 'A Tisket A Tasket' BOM by Anne Sutton of Bunnyhill Designs {which, btw, I haven't begun yet due to some farbric that hasn't found its way to me...hmpfgrndl}...I couldn't help it, but one additional piece of fabric slipped in my basket ;o).
After a good deal of thought I finally got a 'Hera marker', too. After having our share of retail therapy Jutta and I went to a café for a mini show&tell, and of course a lot of chit-chat. I didn't even notice how fast the hours flew by...;o)

So, today I'm closing with a saying that were on the notepad I once got from Mar:

As cute as a button...

Notiz an mich selbst: mache keine Pläne, wenn's ums Sticheln geht! Tja, anstatt am Dönerstag endlich mit dem Noah's Ark BOM aufzuholen, habe ich mit grausfürchterlichen Migräne-Kopfschmerzen zu kämpfen gehabt...

Dabei fing der Tag so schön an mit Sonne, schönen Plänen & sogar einen Anruf aus den Niederlanden {Maike, es war toll, Dich zumindest schon mal kennenzuhören!}. Egal, dafür durfte ich am Freitag Abend Mahlers 7. Symphonie in der Philharmonie genießen {Danke, Papa!} und heute habe ich gleich Jos tolles Knopf-Ketten-Tutorial ausprobiert {jaja, ich hab die Aufmerksamkeitsspanne einer Eintagsfliege, wenn es darum geht, gute Vorsätze umzusetzen}.
Ich habe ein paar alte Perlmutt-Knöpfe, die ich teils auf dem Flohmarkt gefunden und teils von meiner Tante geschenkt bekommen habe, dafür verwendet...weil ich auch gar nicht so viele neue schöne Knöpfe habe... Leider ist mir ein rosa-farbener Knopf beim Zusammenwurschteln kaputt gegangen, so dass ich ihn durch einen grauen (Perlmutt-?)Knopf ersetzen musste. Ich finde, das macht interessant ;o).
Demnächst gehe ich noch zum Bastel-Shop und besorge mir einen vernünftigen Verschluss, aber ich habe es mir nicht nehmen lassen, trotzdem schon mal Modell zu stehen.
Note to myself: don't make any plans for stitching! Well, instead of catching up with the Noah's Ark BOM on Thursday, I had to struggle with some horrible migraine headaches...
Although the day started great with sun, great plans & even a call from the Netherlands {Maike, it was so nice to get to know you via phone!}. Anyway, therefor I could enjoy Mahler's 7. Symphony on Friday in the Philharmony evening {Thanks, Papa!} and today I tried Jo's cool button necklace tutorial {yes yes, when it comes to implement new year's resolutions I seem to have the attention span of a mayfly}.
I used vintage perl buttons, some of which I found at the flea market and some I got from my aunt {btw, I just hadn't enough cute new buttons to use}. Unfortunately one of the pink buttons broke while pulling the wire through the holes so that I had to replace it with a grey (perl?) button. Well, I think that makes the necklace interesting ;o).
Soon I'll visit the craft shop to get a proper clasp but I wanted to pose for your anyway.

Happy New Year 2009 - ending the old year with a finish!

Das neue Jahr ist zwar schon ein paar Stunden alt, aber ich wünsche meiner Handvoll von Lesern ein glückliches, ereignisreiches, inspirierendes Jahr 2009! Ich hoffe, Ihr seid alle wohlbehalten 'reingerutscht & habt es ordentlich krachen lassen :o).

The new year has already begun a few hours ago but I'd like to wish my handful of readers a happy, eventful, inspiring year 2009! I hope you all had a good start & had a blast ;o).

Tatsächlich habe ich es geschafft, das alte Jahr mit einem fertigen Projekt abzuschließen - whoot! Wenn Ihr jetzt allerdings glaubt, ich hätte es geschafft, einen meiner angefangenen Quilts fertig zu stellen... ähem...wenn Ihr schon länger mitlest, kommt Ihr wahrscheinlich gar nicht auf einen so absurden Gedanken *g*... - Nein, ich habe in einer (für mich) Blitz-Aktion einen kleinen Tabletopper für ein Geburtstagskind genäht, das mich überraschend eingeladen hat.
Vom Aussuchen der Stoffe bis hin zum Annähen des Labels sind gerade mal 2 - in Worten: ZWEI - Kalendertage vergangen ;o).

Actually I managed to end the old year with a finish - whooot! But if you now think I'd finished one of my WIPs...ehem...well, if you're a regular reader of my humble blog you wouldn't even get this absurd idea *g*... - No, in a loak-and-dagger operation I made a little tabletopper for a birthday child. From choosing the fabrics to attaching the label it only took me 2 - in words: TWO - days ;o).

O.K. - hier die "technischen Daten". Da ich es sowieso nie schaffe, mein Heft mit allen Projekten im Überblick zu aktualisieren, muss nun der Blog dafür herhalten ;o)

Ich hatte mir die Anleitung vor einiger Zeit gekauft, weil ich gehofft hatte, gute Tipps für das Nähen des Bindings der stumpfen Innenwinkel zu bekommen. Leider sagte die Anleitung dazu nur "Quilt and bind as desired" - naja, vielleicht auch zuviel erwartet bei einer Mini-Anleitung zu einem Mini-Preis. Deswegen kann ich die Anleitung zwar empfehlen - nicht jedoch für blutige Anfänger {ha! ich bin kein blutiger Anfänger mehr...obwohl mein Zeigefinger etwas anderes sagt, egal...na, wenn das nicht ein Grund zum Feiern ist!?}.
Ich hab dann selbst probiert und gewurschtelt und ich denke, es ist gar nicht mal so unübel geworden ;o). Wie macht Ihr das? Gibt es dafür einen Trick, den man kennen sollte? Ich bin für jeden Tipp dankbar, denn das ist garantiert nicht der letzte Tabletopper gewesen!

I bought the pattern a while ago hoping to find some tips on sewing the binding for the obtuse inner angles. Sadly the pattern only said to "quilt and bind as desired" - well, perhaps I just expected too much from a mini pattern at such a mini price. Nevertheless I can recomment this pattern - but it isn't written for raw recruits {ha! I'm not a total beginner anymore...isn't that a reason to celebrate!?}. So I tried on my own and I think it didn't turn out that bad. How do you solve this problem? Is there any trick to bind inner angles? I'm happy for any tip you cana give me because this definitely wasn't the last "Town Square"!

Winter!

Wer ein RSS-Feed-Reader nutzt hat es wohl noch nicht gesehen, aber ich habe meinem kleinen Blog ein neues Kleid verpasst. Passend zur Jahreszeit (zur Erinnerung: wir haben Winter, auch wenn es momentan eher nach grau-braunem Matsch aussieht) darf mein Blog jetzt in winterlichem Outfit erstrahlen...naja, daher-punkten passt vielleicht besser ;o) Und das beste ist: ich habe es zu 99.9% alleine geschafft. Meine BessereHälfte hat mir gleich einen neuen Namen verpasst - CSS-Scrap-Queen *grins*... ich denke mal, deswegen, weil er genau weiß, dass ich von CSS/Html überhaupt keine Ahnung habe ;o)

Wer es bis jetzt noch nicht getan hat, aufgepasst: mein Giveaway von 5 Fat Quarters herbstlicher Webstoffe geht noch bis nächsten Montag, hinterlasst ein Kommentar zu diesem Eintrag, in dem Ihr mir erzählt, was Ihr damit machen würdet & Ihr seid schon dabei ;o). Those of you who use rss feed readers haven't seen it yet, but I got a new 'dress' for my humble blog. Consistent with the season (yep, here, we now have winter, even if it more looks like gray-brown mud), my little blog gleams in a winterly outfit...perhaps 'it polka-dot-s in a new outfit' is more suitable ;o). And the best thing: I did it 99.9% all by myself. My significant other had to give me a new name - CSS-Scrap-Queen ...I think it's just because he knows I haven't got a clue of css/html codes ;o)
If anybody hasn't seen yet - I'm giving away some lovely woven fat quarters. Insomnia - but late anyway

Hmmmm...da bin ich, mitten in der Nacht, und schreibe diesen Eintrag...um halb 3 war meine Nacht zu Ende, da ein 'freundliches' Grippevirus sich bei mir 'eingenistet' hat. I leide ja nun wirklich selten an Schlaflosigkeit und finde das jetzt alles andere als schön - aber ich hab mir gedacht, ich kann genausogut etwas Produktives tun. Voilà, hier bin ich. Ich brauche Euch aber nicht leid zu tun, ich lasse nicht zu, dass das Virus sich allzu wohl bei mir fühlt ;o). Obwohl, der kleine Kerl {klickt auf die Bilder und Ihr kommt zur entsprechenden Seite mit der Erklärung, wer sich dahinter versteckt} sieht ja nicht gerade hübsch aus, vielleicht sollte ich nicht allzu fies zu ihm sein. Vielleicht haben sich auch ein paar von denen eingenistet (Bild links)...Noch viel mehr zu finden unter Giant Microbes.

Leider kann ich die Zeit nicht nutzen, um an meinem 'geheimen Projekt' weiter zu arbeiten. Letztens hatte ich einen Beinahe-Unfall mit dem Rollschneider, weil die linke Hand nicht wusste, was die andere gerade tat, so dass es wahrscheinlich unklug ist, um 3.30 mit irgendwelchen scharfen Gegenständen zu arbeiten...
Also lese ich jede Menge Blogs - es hat definitiv Vorteile, wenn man Blogs vom anderen Ende der Welt liest & gerade mal nicht schlafen kann ;o)
Und was hab ich gesehen? - Jodi von Simply This That and the Other hatte die gleiche Idee wie ich (nur schöner verpackt und mal wieder früher umgesetzt als ich): Sie möchte wöchentlich einen interessanten quiltigen Blog vorstellen & sucht dafür jetzt einen passenden Namen...Ihr könnt übrigens aus einer Auswahl Euren Favoriten wählen bzw. selbst einen Vorschlag machen & macht damit automatisch bei der Verlosung einer Überraschung mit...oder Ihr sagt mir einen tollen Namen...und wenn er wirklich gut ist, überleg ich mir auch etwas Nettes für Euch ;o). Hihi, ich mache Jodi Konkurrenz - nee, das ist gemein, aber vielleicht hab ich ja Glück, und es bleibt ein netter Name für mich übrig.

Hmmm...here I am, in the middle of the night and writing this post...at 2.30 am my night was over because a nasty cold decided to "nest". I rarely suffer from insomnia so this is quite annoying - so I thought I could do something productive as well. Don't have pity on me...I won't let the rhinovirus feel too much at home ;o). That little one {on the right hand side, click on the picture to get to know who it is} doesn't look that pretty so perhaps I shouldn't be too harsh to it, should I? *lol*...maybe I'm visited by some of these, too (left). I cant use the time by working on my secret projects now even if I wanted to, but some days before I had a near-rotary-cutter-accident because my left hand didn't know what the other was doing and at 3.30 am I don't think it wise to do anything with sharp ends...:(
Now I'm catching up with all my US blogs - it definitely has advantages if you're reading blogs from the other side of the world. And what did I just learn? Jodi @ Simply This That And the Other has had the same idea as me {but I'm much slower than her & she presented it much more stylish}: She wants to feature crafty /quilty blogs on her blog so that you'll spend even more time on the computer reading, quasi acting as your dealer for satisfying your blog addiction ;o). Me too - as I'm following quite a bunch I thought you might get to know a new one. But I haven't come up with a catchy name for it - neither has Jodi and she's having a contest. You either can vote for your favourite catchy phrase or suggest your own and then you're in for a surprise giveaway... well, I'm watching this site, perhaps a good phrase is left over & I can use it myself ;o). Or you could give me some suggestions and if there's the perfect one I'll come up with a little something for you - heehee, I'm going to compete against Jodi - nah, I don't...that's mean!

What I do when I'm bored ;o)

O.K. - ich gebe zu: ich MAG es nicht, dass meine Stoffsammlung unordentlich ist. Sie ist es heute Abend immer noch, trotzdem ich schon wieder umsortiert habe {naja, zumindest nach meinen Maßstäben}, da ich immer noch nicht mein Aufbewahrungssystem gefunden habe. Hmpf. Lustigerweise wurde am Wochenende auf mehreren Blogs zum gleichen Thema gepostet... z. B. hier & hier. Und ein zweiter Zufall...{nicht ganz Zufall, denn das hat mich eigentlich erst zum Thema gebracht}: ich habe bei Gabi @ Pillowtree eine Zeitschrift gewonnen, die das Thema Studio Makeover hatte...sehr inspirierend...bei einigen Räumen dachte ich sofort: könnt ihr gerne bei mir an die Wohnung anbauen, ich koch auch Kaffee für die Handwerker, lol...Danke nochmal, Gabi! Übrigens, sie hat das ja nicht umsonst verlost, sondern weil sie eine Wette gewinnen möchte - 10.000 Besucher bis zum 31. Dezember 2008. Also, schaut doch mal bei Gabi vorbei und helft ihr, die Wette zu gewinnen. Sie hat heute ein Tutorial für eine Taschentuch-Tasche gepostet - na los, einfach HIER KLICKEN {falls die drei anderen Links noch nicht Anreiz genug waren *g*}.

Uuuund ich habe nicht nur meinen großen Schätzen gedacht, sondern mich auch um die Kleinen gekümmert, um meine Scraps. Jepp, richtig gehört. Ich habe zwar hunderte von angefangenen/geplanten/gewünschten/gedachten Projekten, an denen ich werkeln könnte/müsste/sollte/wollte, und das einzige, was ich an einem Samstag Nachmittag mache, ist Scraps zu sortieren. Ich habe zwar nicht meine ganze Kiste durchgearbeitet, aber wenigstens angefangen. Vor einigen Monaten habe ich mir das Scrapmaster-Lineal gekauft. Ich fand die Idee, die Reste meiner Quiltversuche {irgendwann, in einer fernen, fernen Zukunft} ohne großen Aufwand, d. h. ohne großartiges Zuschnippeln der krummen und schiefen Stoffstücke, direkt in einen schönen Scrap-Quilt zu verwandeln. Also hab ich geschnitten und geschnitten und geschnitten...naja, Ihr wisst, worauf ich hinaus will ;o). Ich habe sogar eine ganze Armarda von Plastik-Tüten {ich wusste, dass die IKEA-Jumbo-Packung irgendwann Verwendung finden würde...und ja, ich schäme mich, die Umwelt guckt mich schon mit bösen Augen an!} mit den Scrapmaster-Größen beschriftet & schließlich noch weitere für die Größen 1"-7" in 1/2"-Schritten. Ich habe sogar meine Webkanten zusammen aus ihren tausend Verstecken gesucht - und wer weiß, vielleicht habe ich irgendwann genug gesammelt, um so etwas zu nähen? Naaa, eher nicht, sie werden wohl eher in AMCs o. ä. verwendet. ;o) EDIT: ich habe gerade etwas auf einem anderen Blog gesehen: DAS wäre auch eine Möglichkeit

O.K. - I have to confess: I don't LIKE my stash to be unorganised. It still is even though I spent several hours re-sorting {according to my criteria, others would probably disagree} because I haven't found my storage & organising system yet. Hmpf. Funny thing is, that I've just read about 'stash folding/organising' on other blogs here and there.
And a second coincidence {well, not really coincidence, because it steered me into this direction}: I won a copy of the Cloth•Paper•Sissors special issue 'Studios' from Gabi at Pillowtree - loved the makeover they showed...quite inspiring...looking at some studios I thougt 'I don't mind if you'd add them to my appartment...I'll make coffee for the craftsmen', lol...
By the way, she didn't give away this magazine without purpose, Gabi has a bet ongoing: she needs 10.000 visitors on her blog {sometime she posts in English, too} til December, 31st! So, go visiting her and help to win her bet. As a treat she posted a tutorial for a tissue holder {with English instructions} today - so what are you waiting for? And I actually managed to organise my scraps. Yep. You've heard read that right. I've thousands of projects that I could work on and the only thing I do is sorting through my scraps. Well, I didn't make it through the whole box, but I made a start. Some month ago I bought the Scrapmaster ruler and since then I admired the idea of actually using the remainder of my quilting efforts to create {one day in the far, far away future} a beautiful scrapquilts directly out of my stash without much cutting and fussing over those {Nanette, if you ever visited my blog, please don't read the next word! ;o)} wonky, crooked or whatever shaped pieces. So I cut, and cut, and cut, and cut...you get the picture. I labelled plastic bags for every size {I bought a pack from IKEA in advance...I knew I could use it someday} & and added bags for scraps from 1" - 7" in 1/2" increments. I even put the selvedges together in one bag - who knows, maybe one day they're enough to sew something like that? Nah, it's more likely, that I'll use them in AMCs ;o). EDIT: I've just read another blog and found THIS...also worth considering...
