Sunday WISP sifting

Puh, heute habe ich jedes WIP (= work in progress), WISP (= work in slow progress), Stoff, der bereits für ein Projek verplant ist, Anleitungen etc. herausgezogen. Jetzt sieht es bei mir aus wie...naja, eben wie es aussieht, wenn ich alles aus meinen Kisten heraushole, lol. Meine WISP-Liste für die OPaM Challenge ist noch lange nicht fertig, aber ich hab immerhin damit angefangen. Wenn ich damit fertig bin, werde ich mich darum kümmern, wie ich die Anzahl der WISPs signifikant verringern kann...
Phew, today I pulled out every WIP, WISP, fabric with designated for special projects, patterns etc. Now my home looks like - well, it looks like someone pulled out everything out of her stash, lol. My list for the OPaM Challenge is definitely not completed yet but hey, I did start with it. When I'm ready, with it I'll decide on my plans to eliminate those WISPs...

Während ich in meinen Sachen alles nach WISPs abgesucht habe, habe ich diese kleine Stickerei gefunden. Ich hab sie damals (lang, lang ist's her, aber deshalb ja auch WISP) im Juni schon mal gezeigt. Ich hab die Bügel-Vorlage beim Kauf einer Ursula Schertz-Anleitung von ihr in die Hand gedrückt bekommen und drauflosgestickt {ich LIEBE das DMC #115 Garn!} ohne eine Verwendungs-Idee zu haben. Naja, heute ist mir eine kleine Box mit einem Bilderrahmen im Deckel über den Weg gelaufen, die im Schrank ihr Dasein fristete. Naja, jetzt habe ich eine ge"pimpte" Box und gleichzeitig ein WISP weniger ;o) ...
While searching low and high in my stash I found this little stitchery. I posted about it back in June. It's a little Stitchery I got for free when purchasing an Ursula Schertz pattern {oh, and I'm so in love with the DMC #115 thread!}. I never had an idea what to do with it and today I came across a little box with a photo frame in its lid. Well, now I have a cute box & a WISP crossed out from my ever growing list ;o) ...Kris, I'm doing fine, don't I? *lol* I know that this one doesn't count ...it only counts for me ;o)

Oh, und schaut mal, was Maike gestichelt hat - kommt Euch das bekannt vor? Jaaaaa, mein eigenes kleines Design, gebannt in Garn & Stoff. Ich bin stolz wie Oskar!! Danke, Süße, dass ich Dein Foto hier zeigen darf. Falls noch jemand etwas "von mir" {klingt immer noch komisch ;o)} gestickt hat, bitte unbedingt zeigen, ja?
Oh, and look what Maike stitched - do you have a familiar ring??? Yaaaaayyy, my own little design, in all its fabric&thread glory. I can tell you, I'm so proud! Thanks, sweetie, that I can show your picture on my blog. If anyone stitched something from my drawings - would you show it, pretty please???

1st Blog-o-versary

Ta-daaa! Ein Jahr ist es jetzt her seit meinem ersten Eintrag und dem ersten Schritt in die Welt der Blogger. Seit damals sind zwar meine Postings um Einiges länger geworden *ähem* - dafür aber auch {zumindest hoffe ich es} etwas interessanter. Tja, was soll ich sagen. Ich würde es immer wieder tun, denn durch meinen Blog habe so viele liebe Blog-Freunde gewonnen {von denen ich so gerne einige persönlich kennen lernen würde - aber zumindest eine darf ich bald treffen!!} und mehr Inspiration gefunden als ich jemals vermutet hätte...

Ta-daaa! It's been one year since my first entry & the first step into the world of blogging. Ever since then my posts got waaaay longer *ehem* - but {at least I hope} a bit more interesting. Well, what to say. I would do it again {start blogging that is}, because through my blog I gained many new (blogging-) friends and I so hope to meet some of them in 'real life' in the future {at least one I'll get to know in person soon!}, and got so much inspiration...

Ich will gar nicht so lange um den heißen Brei herumschreiben, Ihr seid sicher nicht hier, um Euch meine Reflektionen über ein Jahr bloggen anzuhören, oder? Genau, und deshalb kommen wir jetzt ohne Umschweife zu meinem...

Ich möchte versuchen, einen zumindest ganz kleinen Teil dessen zurückzugeben, was mir im letzten Jahr Gutes (ja, auch Giveaways) widerfahren ist. Leider - und das ist wirklich ernst gemeint - kann ich nicht jedem von Euch ein Geschenk zukommen lassen, das sprengt mein Studenten-Buget dann doch etwas....aaaaber, da ein Giveaway zu wenig ist, und aller guten Dinge gleich drei sind...und weil heute die Heiligen Drei Könige sind {O.K., das war nicht ausschlaggebend, aber es passt so gut}, habe ich drei kleine Preise für Euch zusammen gestellt...

Zum Schluss hat sich das Häschen seine Möhre geklaut...naja, seht selbst, was daraus geworden ist...

Of pea pod and blocks/Von Erbsenschoten und Blöcken

Ich muss Euch noch zwei tolle Sachen zeigen...

I have to show you two great things...

1. Ich habe bei Jutta's (Faulengraben) Adventskalender-Blog eine absolut niedliche, total schräge Erbsenschote gewonnen. Ich wusste gar nicht, dass sie etwas verlost - sie hat die hinterlassenen Kommentare zusammen in eine Kiste getan und ganz viele Gewinner gelost. Ich Glückspilz darf jetzt die kleine Erbsenschote mein Eigen nennen... ich werde wahrscheinlich meine Quilt-Markierstifte dort aufbewahren, sobald ich das Problem gelöst habe, wie ich sie daran hindern werde, den schönen Innenstoff zu verschmieren...;o)

1. I won a giveaway at Jutta's (Faulengraben) Advencalendar blog - I participated without knowledge because she so kindly put all commenter's name in a draw for some great prizes. I got a fabulous pea pod in which I plan to store my quilt marking pens - as soon I solved the problem to prevent them to ruin the lining fabric...;o). Isn't the pea pod gorgeous? Thank you, Jutta!!
She's doing it again - this year she hosts a Theodor Storm stitchery BOM!

2. Anita (Bloomin' Workshop) wollte sich von ein paar weihnachtlichen Blöcken und etwas Zusatzstoff trennen, die bei Ihr schon zu lange herumlagen. Jetzt darf ich überlegen und rätseln, wie ich daraus einen wunderschönen Quilt zaubere! Ein paar Ideen habe ich schon - mein Ziel ist es, das Top bis spätestens zum nächsten Weihnachtsfest fertig zu haben...machbar, oder? Alle abgeschnittenen Spitzen, Ecken usw. sind auf einen schrägen Winkel beim Fotografieren zurückzuführen.
Anita hat mir noch ein paar nette Zeilen geschrieben auf einer schönen, selbstgebastelten Karte - mit Glitzersteinchen ;o) - Danke, Anita!!!
Oh, und falls Ihr das noch nicht wusstet: Anita bietet ein Quilt-Along für einen Medallion-Quilt an. Die Anleitungen werden monatlich veröffentlicht, gerade gab's den Januar-Rand...steht auf jeden Fall auf meiner *haben will* Liste...}
2. Anita (Bloomin' Workshop) wanted to part with some Christmas-y blocks and some complementing fabric that were too long in her stash. Now I am allowed to think of a way to turn them into a beautiful quilt! I already have some ideas - my goal ist to finish the top until next Christmas ...possible task, isn't it?
All cut edges, points etc. are due to a skew angle when photographing the gems. Anita also wrote me some lines on a cute selfmade card - Thanks so much, Anita!!!
Oh, and in case you didn't know: Anita hosts a medallion-quilt-along...the January border is published recently...this quilt is definitely on my *want it* list...

Oh, und ich habe noch ein paar gute Vorsätze für meinen Blog {hihi, fängt man erst einmal an, dann fällt es einem schwer, wieder aufzuhören}:
1. ENDLICH meine Linkliste aktualisieren - habe z. B. gerade gemerkt, dass ich {pfui!} es versäumt habe, den Link zu Maikes Blog zu setzen...wenigstens den hab ich schonmal nachgetragen. Fehlen jetzt nur noch...so ca. eine Millionen ;o)
2. Zwei neue Post-Kategorien/Themen einführen {geheim, geheim - nee, nichts Spektakuläres, aber Geheimnisse machen nun mal interessant ;o) } und die Labels vereinheitlichen
3. Hmmm...hab kein 3. - öfter schreiben werde ich nicht, 1-2 mal die Woche muss reichen...aber ich versuche, regelmäßiger zu posten!

Oh, I have some new year's resolutions regarding my blog {heehee, when started it's hard to stop again}: 1. FINALLY update my link list - I realized that I forgot {fie!} to link to Maike's blog...well, at least I did that ...now there are only a million left ;o) 2. To introduce two new post categories {top secret - no, nothing spectacular, but secrets always draw attention} and to unify the labels 3. Hmmm...haven't got a 3. - I won't post more often, 1-2 times per week gotta do it...but I try to post more regularly!

She's making a list...and checking it twice...;o)

Hmmm? Immer noch Weihnachten? Nein...es geht eher um gute Vorsätze für's neue Jahr. Eigentlich bin ich nicht so der Vorsatz-Mensch, aber bei quiltigen Vorsätzen sehe ich das nicht so eng. Deswegen habe ich auch gleich "hier" gerufen als ich bei Kris und May Britt von ihrer "One Project a Month Challenge" angemeldet. Was das ist? Nun, wir alle haben ja mindestens ein (öhöm, ich bin jetzt mal gaaanz positiv) WISP (= work in SLOW progress), also gemeiner gesagt, UFO (= unfertiges Objekt) bei uns zu Hause herumliegen. Das sind nicht nur die angefangenen Blöcke oder Tops, sondern auch Anleitungen und Stoffsammlungen, die wir für bestimmte Projekte beiseite gelegt haben. Naja, und um endlich einen kleinen Stubs in den Allerwertesten zu kriegen, versuche ich nun, pro Monat eines dieser Projekte fertig zu bekommen.
Und so kommen wir zum Titel {damit Ihr nicht denkt, ich wäre total verrückt}: ich habe angefangen, eine Liste meiner WISPs zu machen, die ich dann in der Sidebar (links) veröffentlichen werde. Aus dieser Liste werde ich mir monatlich mindestens eines heraussuchen. May Britt und Kris sind sogar so nett, dass sie jede Fertigstellung monatlich in einen Topf tun und einen Gewinner für eine Kleinigkeit ziehen. Ich habe mich angeboten, auch einen Preis beizusteurern...wir werden sehen, wann und wie das passieren wird ;o).

Vom "WISPing" (also dem Vernichten meiner UFOs) einmal abgesehen, habe ich mir vorgenommen, dieses Jahr

1. Einen Quilt zu behalten - Holger fragt mittlerweile immer, wenn ich etwas Neues anfange, ob es auch mal 'was für mich wird ;o)
2. Kleine Übungsquilts sowohl für's Maschinen- als auch Handquilten zu nähen. Ich habe jetzt das 2. Mal handgequiltet - da ich letztens mit Schreck festgestellt habe, dass ich, außer bei meinem "Zufallsquilt" {waaah, schon 1 Jahr her!}, nicht mehr zum Handquilten gekommen bin & ich langsam vom Nahtschattenquilten mit der Maschine etwas gelangweilt bin.
3. Meine eigenen "Designs" oder Krakeleien etwas mehr zu verfolgen...
4. Keine "Angst" zu haben, dass ein Projekt mal nicht perfekt wird - Es ist NUR Stoff ;o). Wenn's nicht gefällt, auftrennen und noch mal neu anfangen!

So, damit der Eintrag nicht zu lang wird, erzähle ich Euch den Rest in einem anderen Post. Aber eines noch: Morgen habe ich Blog-Geburtstag!! Kommt wieder, es gibt eine kleine Überraschung!!! ;o)

Hmm? Still Christmas? No...it's about new year's resolutions. In fact, I don't like them that much {chance of failing is too high ;o)} but with crafty resolutions I bend the rules... So I called "here" as soon as I learned about Kris' and May Britt's "One Project a Month Challenge". You can read everything about it here or here. I think it's just perfect: a little kick in the button but not that much pressure - every month you can start again tackling the goal. Now for the title {so you don't think I'm crazy...well, maybe you'll think that anyway}: I started to list every WISP {= work in SLOW progress, I prefer that rather than the bad U-word} and will put it on my sidebar. From that list I choose at least one per month to finish. May Britt and Kris are such sweeties, to motivate us even more they put every finish in a hat and draw a monthly winner of a little prize. I asked Kris if they needed me to give a prize, too...well, we'll see the how and when...

Besides "WISPing" {= to wipe out UFOs...waah, the U-word!} I resolved to
1. Keep a quilt - Holger always ask me if I'll keep it when I start with a new project
2. Make little quilts to practice machine- & handquilting - I handquilted only 2 times (both only little quilts) and there was too much time between the two project that I had to start from zero again & I'm getting bored of only machine stich-in-the-ditch...
3. Focus (in addition to the other projects...so focus is probably the wrong expression...) on my own "designs"/scribblings
4. Not to be "afraid" that a quilt won't be perfect - it's JUST fabric ;o). If I don't like it - rip it & start again! And to keep a long post as short as possible, I'll tell you the rest in another post. Just one thing: tomorrow is my "blog-o-versary"! Come back, there will be a little surprise!!! ;o)

Happy New Year 2009 - ending the old year with a finish!

Das neue Jahr ist zwar schon ein paar Stunden alt, aber ich wünsche meiner Handvoll von Lesern ein glückliches, ereignisreiches, inspirierendes Jahr 2009! Ich hoffe, Ihr seid alle wohlbehalten 'reingerutscht & habt es ordentlich krachen lassen :o).

The new year has already begun a few hours ago but I'd like to wish my handful of readers a happy, eventful, inspiring year 2009! I hope you all had a good start & had a blast ;o).

Tatsächlich habe ich es geschafft, das alte Jahr mit einem fertigen Projekt abzuschließen - whoot! Wenn Ihr jetzt allerdings glaubt, ich hätte es geschafft, einen meiner angefangenen Quilts fertig zu stellen... ähem...wenn Ihr schon länger mitlest, kommt Ihr wahrscheinlich gar nicht auf einen so absurden Gedanken *g*... - Nein, ich habe in einer (für mich) Blitz-Aktion einen kleinen Tabletopper für ein Geburtstagskind genäht, das mich überraschend eingeladen hat.
Vom Aussuchen der Stoffe bis hin zum Annähen des Labels sind gerade mal 2 - in Worten: ZWEI - Kalendertage vergangen ;o).

Actually I managed to end the old year with a finish - whooot! But if you now think I'd finished one of my WIPs...ehem...well, if you're a regular reader of my humble blog you wouldn't even get this absurd idea *g*... - No, in a loak-and-dagger operation I made a little tabletopper for a birthday child. From choosing the fabrics to attaching the label it only took me 2 - in words: TWO - days ;o).

O.K. - hier die "technischen Daten". Da ich es sowieso nie schaffe, mein Heft mit allen Projekten im Überblick zu aktualisieren, muss nun der Blog dafür herhalten ;o)

Ich hatte mir die Anleitung vor einiger Zeit gekauft, weil ich gehofft hatte, gute Tipps für das Nähen des Bindings der stumpfen Innenwinkel zu bekommen. Leider sagte die Anleitung dazu nur "Quilt and bind as desired" - naja, vielleicht auch zuviel erwartet bei einer Mini-Anleitung zu einem Mini-Preis. Deswegen kann ich die Anleitung zwar empfehlen - nicht jedoch für blutige Anfänger {ha! ich bin kein blutiger Anfänger mehr...obwohl mein Zeigefinger etwas anderes sagt, egal...na, wenn das nicht ein Grund zum Feiern ist!?}.
Ich hab dann selbst probiert und gewurschtelt und ich denke, es ist gar nicht mal so unübel geworden ;o). Wie macht Ihr das? Gibt es dafür einen Trick, den man kennen sollte? Ich bin für jeden Tipp dankbar, denn das ist garantiert nicht der letzte Tabletopper gewesen!

I bought the pattern a while ago hoping to find some tips on sewing the binding for the obtuse inner angles. Sadly the pattern only said to "quilt and bind as desired" - well, perhaps I just expected too much from a mini pattern at such a mini price. Nevertheless I can recomment this pattern - but it isn't written for raw recruits {ha! I'm not a total beginner anymore...isn't that a reason to celebrate!?}. So I tried on my own and I think it didn't turn out that bad. How do you solve this problem? Is there any trick to bind inner angles? I'm happy for any tip you cana give me because this definitely wasn't the last "Town Square"!
