From Finishes & Fabric

Oops, it seems there are some more things to show you (to be honest, there will still be some things I want to show but as I have to borrow DH's camera these will have to wait for another time).
I have to show you some of the lovely gifts I got the last year (some pictures are still missing...I hope to find them or I'll have to make new ones):

A zippered bag - made by the infamous Sherri of A Quilting Life (this was a giveaway, she made it extra for me with 'Patisserie' fabrics...!!!)

A sweet Christmas-y table runner, a present from my friend Monika:

Ein wunder-wunderschöner Weihnachts/Winter-TableRunner, ein Weihnachtsgeschenk von Monika
(I have to admit that I still have my Christmas decorations on my dining table because I can't get enough of the combination of the table runner & the cake stand...;o) ).

And one of my  treasured birthday gifts from last year is this one - my friend Maike stitched this one for me & now it holds everything I need to stitch in the evenings on hand...

FINALLY: Noah's Ark Stitchery BoM - finished!

ENDLICH: Noah's Ark Stitchery Bom - feddish!
It still needs some quilting stitches but it's bound - finally...I finished the binding on this this one in December 2009.

What do you do when you're frustrated with a quilt you're piecing - right, start another one (I need to improve on that habit...I really should, but I don't want to...heehee).
So, another December project...my 'Beach Quilt'...it's a pattern by Leanne Beasley of Leanne's House, 'Ruth's Quilt', but I added some of my own sketches for the stitcheries (to give the quilt a more
beach-y/nautical theme, matching the 'Beach House' fabrics by Blackbird Designs, called 'Beach House'...I've done 18 of 35 stitcheries...a nice work for the evenings...

OPAM & Charming Girls Club

I know, some of you may think I've already joined too many clubs/challenges and such...and I know I already commited to the OPAM challenge. I won't quit that one & I definitely keep this challenge in mind because it's a great motivation (I guess the finished things I showed on Tuesday count for this month, do they?). But I know me, I'm a better starter than finisher & the OPAM of Kris and Peg only count finishes. This is great if you make many small projects - unfortunately I'm often drawn to biiig projects...hmmm...maybe I want to compensate my body height...or the lack of it :o).
Soo I was happy when Kelly announced the 2nd year of the Charming Girls' Club I knew it was a great opportunity to motivate my lazy self to meet my goals - even though it means that I am not finished with the project/quilt.

You can read about the rules here. Kelly had the great idea that we'll define bi-monthly goals, which suits me very well & they don't have to be only about quilting...hmmm...do I really want the world to know that I HAVE to clean my windows? ;o) What if I scare you away with just TMI?

The theme of July/August is Self-Care...

In order to follow this task, I decided to blog only in English in future - I really loved to have my posts bilingual, but one of the reasons I've stopped blogging was the enormous amount of time every post took to write. Time I don't have or rather I don't want to spend on the computer. Even though my mother language isn't English it's easier for me to write in English because (despite all the mistakes I make)...when thinking 'quilt' it's English. Nope, I'll continue to post bilingual...it seems that I can't stand to disappoint people...;(

Okay, here are my quilty goals for July and August...:

1. Vintage Memories BoM - finish the quilt top by July, 25th
I've already made Block 1-6 (10 12" blocks and the four 7" blocks)
BoMs 1-6 sind fertig, d. h. 10 12" Blöcke und die 4 7" Blöcke in der Mitte
...and cut all pieces for Block 7 (okay, I admit, I've already cut ALL pieces for the whole top...)
The quilt is only for DH & me...so why a deadline? Well, I visited the Textile Art last month & a nice lady who has a longarm quilting business had a special 20 %-off-offer...and that offer expires on the 25th... (Living Quilts, Birgit Bradler).
The beautiful BoM quilt will be about 77" x 97" and I want this quilt to lie on my couch before I get too old to enjoy it. And let's face it, my quilting skills don't meet my expectations for this quilt...I want it to be quilted with feathers ...many, beautiful feathers and not only wonky doodles...those who met me, know that I'm a huge fan of feathers...some might call it obsessed.
So, wish me luck that I'm able to meet that deadline...;o)

2. Piece another Block of the Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery BoM 2009
I've made 5 or 6 of these lovely star blocks...will finish the top before winter begins..should be a realistic goal!....????

3. Piece another Sweet Dresden block
I've made 13 1/2 of 30 Dresden plates...they all need to be appliquéd onto a background but I still haven't decided on a fabric...I thought of THIS one, but maybe it's too dotty? A solid yellow or blue? The cream background I bought for this quilt was too creamy {that's one of the disadvantages of buying online; but I found the perfect Jelly Roll to go with (Tula Pink 'Plume'...it was on sale and I just couldn't resist...bad Julia!) so it won't be wasted}.

4. Piece the center block of 'Summer Wind'
This is going to be a quilt for my mother...I thought 'Rural Jardin' would be perfect...and my mother loved it...so we both decided to invest in some 1/2 yds. (Rossville Quilts has an awesome customer service, I can really recommend this online quilt shop!). I sure will make that quilt for me, too...maybe with my precious 'Mill House Inn' fat quarters...;o).

5. If I'm really good, I'll add the first round of strips to all diamonds of the Whmsy Diamonds Table Topper (Fig Tree Club)
Started this one and then had to stop because my trusty Bernina had to have her service...

6. Not to worry about all the other UFOs/WI(S)Ps
They're part of another set of goals! So I don't have to think of them now ;o).

7. Make 3 Birthday gifts
...my friend and her two little ones had their birthday some time ago...need to make some little gifts...sigh...;o)

8. Secret project
Hey, it's a secret project, you don't expect me to spoil the surprise, do you? ;o)

Well, these are my quilty goals...I'm not sure if I am able to meet all of them {because I don't know my work schedule for this summer yet}, but as they're my first CGC goals I thought I should aim high ;o).
Maybe I should add some blog-related goals? Hmmm....these are only second class goals...:

A. New Blog Layout
Can't see the green/yellow anymore...want to have a fresh layout...maybe red&aqua or pink!? We'll see...

Ich kann das grün/gelb nicht mehr sehen....also muss ein neues, frisches Layout her...vielleicht rot & aqua (hellblau)...oder rosa? Naja, wir werden sehen...

B. Blog at least once a week or a fortnight*
Of course I'm tempted to blog more...but I have to be realistic ;o)...wasn't this month's theme all about self-care?

C. Answer to all comments as soon as possible*
Don't want the guilt to catch me again!! You know I love every comment & I'll do my best, promised! ;o)

D. Blogging has to be FUN!*
No more feeling guilty of not blogging all I want to (I've had many ideas....)
* this is my answer to this month's theme 'self-care'...NOT feeling guilty about blogging!

It's fun to be back again!
Hugs, Julia

Schön, wieder hier zu sein!

Ummm...hello?

Umm....hello? When I logged in into my blog account it literally asked me 'Sorry, but you are...?' Yes, I've been an awful blogger for the last...year or so... but I want to make a fresh start...I even considered starting a new blog, starting from zero...but nope, in real life that's impossible, too, so this must do it: *ta-daa!* *bling bling* ;o).
I won't bore you with all what I did since the last post (mostly working) so I searched my hard drive for some pictures of things I've made but didn't came around to show you (quite difficult, because I didn't accomplish much and on top I 'moved' to a new computer & still haven't all my data from the backup drive yet...)
O.K., here we go:
The bag I made for my mom's birthday last year (it's a Moda Bakeshop Recipe by Jody of Pleasant Home). I let her pick the colors herself because I wanted it to be entirely her bag...she chose Minick & Simpson's 'Wiscasset' if I'm not mistaken...sorry for the slightly blurry pictures...I did them in December and as you can guess, the light was awful...

A litte bit more close up:

Aus einer anderen Perspektive:

Also from last year it's the birthday quilt for my cousin which I finished quilting about one year after the top was clompleted...I'm glad this one now resides at its new home...I quilted this 'monster' (I call all big quilts I have to wrestle with that name...I really loved this one!) with my Bernina, quilting a 1 1/2" diagonal grid within the 54-40-or-fight blocks & outlined the 'designer' blocks in the green border...

 Detail of Dani's quilt:

Detail von Danis Quilt:

The last time I showed you the 'Louisa' Schnibbles...until now it's about 2/3 quilted...at the moment it's simply too hot to work on this one but my goal is, to finish it before the 1st December (....um...THIS year!):

Speaking of December & Christmas...here's the little Tilda stitchery I've completed about two years ago and finally got it framed this year...:

Despite my best intentions, I wasn't that good with keeping on track regarding the Year of Schnibbles Challenge - but at least I finished the May Schnibbles, in my case: 'Open Season'! I couldn't resist and add some 'unruly' geese...some are always marching to a different drummer:

Next, my WallflowerJ quilt (you can guess, I keep this one, it has my inital on it ;o))
It's machine pieced and quilted, hand appliquéd & I'll add some big stitch quilting in the appliqué areas when I've found the right color perlé cotton. Dear Holger had a hard time holding up this one because I couldn't get one straight shot...but I guess you get the picture.
The pattern is 'Wallflower' by the talented Camille Roskelley of Thimbleblossom, but slightly altered (no ric rac & I made it a bit bigger). I even used the same fabric. I LOVE the checked border fabric.

Last but not least, here's a little monster creation I made for the son of a former fellow worker. I called him Boo!
You wouldn't guess how arkward it was to sew with a material other than cotton...so this one turned out quite wonky, and surely I need to improve my softie/toy making skills...

By for now, I hope to post again in a few days about what I'm currently working on...
Hugs, Julia

Fresh start ~ and a little finish

Hallo!

Hi! I know it's been an awfully long time since my last post...but here I am again (once more) ;o)
I wish you all the best for the year coming ~ may it keep only good surprises and many, many hours to stitch ready for you!

I opted against New Year's resolutions for 2010, but if I made any, I would have decided not only to start but to finish new projects - and, of course, to show you...
{Okay, the no-New-Year's-resolution-rule doesn't prevent me from signing up for Kris' & Peg's OPAM challenge ~ on Friday the sign up is open for everybody & I already marked the date in my mental calendar}.

And here is my first finish for this year...it hadn't a chance to become a WIP, because I not only started it today but finished it in no time! It's the December Schnibbles of Sinta's and Sherri's A Year of Schnibbles Challenge. It was so much fun and I think it won't be the last "Tuffet"...the small squares of the Nine Patches are only 1" and not foundation pieced.

Speaking of Schnibbles - here are some pictures of the October project, "Cindy Lou Who". I made this pattern with "Peace on Earth" fabrics ~ I just love these Christmas fabrics (as well as every Christmas collection by 3 Sisters)! Because I only used a few fabrics, the finished top looked a bit boring, so I decided to stitch some little Christmas birds in the center Snowball blocks.
Even though I'm not finished handquilting the table topper, I sewed on the binding. That way I could enjoy my very own Christmas quilt during the holidays...;o)
Now I only need a name for it...well, I'm sure it will take some more time to finish the quilt (I'm only 1/4 way through quilting the cross hatch).
I think you can see the evolution of my quilt stitches....;o)

Bye for now,
Julia

Sneak Peek Revealed

Dies ist dabei herausgekommen:
It seemed to me that I forgot something...oh, well, yes! Back in May I showed you a little sneak peek. I could have revealed the secret in August...but better late than never! I participated in a little 'Housewarming Gift' Row Robin for Maike. Monika asked me this spring if I'd like to make one among other talented ladies. The overall theme was - of course - to make a welcome quilt for the entrance hall, but we decided to make it with inspirations/patterns of our favourite Australian designers. We chose a fabric & some embroidery floss in order to keep the result harmonically despite the distance that seperates us. Monika agreed on finishing the quilt and she made a good job (you can see the finished wallhanging here). Sadly, I couldn't come when they gave it to Maike, but the gals did have fun!

From top to bottom: Monika (Meine Nadelarbeiten), my humble self, Anja (Zuckersüß), Patricia (Allgäumädel).
My row is a conglomeration inspired by several (but not all!) of my favourite designers:

On the right hand side Leanne Beasley's signature flowers cavort together with some of my hand. The house is a miniature of an Anni Downs Medallion Quilt from Quilter's Companion magazine and the little bird on top of the roof is by Natalie Lymer.

On the left there is the home of the little bird together with its mate.
All appliqué & stitcheries are inspired by those wonderful designers, nevertheless I drew them free hand...

The dog is 'my' design...and covers a little mistake I made while drawing ;o). The quilt it holds was appliquéd 'free form': I cut out a little square and found the shape while stitching it down. It is inspired by Lynette Anderson's 'A Kitten's Tale'.

Thanks for visiting, Julia
