Talking Stash

After the having completed the Vintage Memories BoM, aka the BIG FINISH I decided that my stash needed some TLC. So I started to sort in all the leftover snippets from the recent projects that had accumulated in my handy table trash. I picked it up on my last visit to IKEA and I'm so glad I did. It is separated in two boxes, one is for leftovers to be sorted into my Scrap Box...or thread spools to be put back to the thread box...you get the idea. The other one is the trash bin, where everything smaller than 1" will go. I know. I had to set a limit ;o).

After some hours of cutting and sorting I looked at my Scrap Box (which contains 1 1/2", 2", and 2 1/2" squares) and thought that it is time to actually use all those meticulously cut & sorted scraps. 

Oh, btw, the box above my Scrap box is for 1" Log cabin strips and/or 'Tuffets'...sorted by light/medium/dark.

Nachdem der Vintage Memories BoM fertig geworden ist, habe ich beschlossen, dass ich meinen Stöffchen/Resten ein bisschen Aufmerksamkeit schenken sollte. Also habe ich all die übriggebliebenen Stoff-Schnipsel der letzten Projekte, die sich in meinem MuFuTiMü (Multifunktionstischmülleimer...nennen wir ihn einfach Bert...) angesammelt haben, in meine Scrapbox sortiert. Bert ist übrigens eine wirklich tolle Investition vom gelb-blauen Schweden gewesen. Darin kann ich während des Nähens/Schneidens alle brauchbaren Reste, aber auch die Stückchen, die tatsächlich in den Müll wandern (alles unter 1"), sammeln.

Nach einigen Stündchen des Sortierens, des Zurechtschnippelns und des Einsortierens hab ich mir meine Scrapbox angeschaut und festgestellt, dass ich die 1 1/2"-, 2"-, und 2 1/2"-Quadrate auch mal tatsächlich vernähen sollte.

Ach so - die Box über meiner Scrap Box ist für 1"-Log Cabin-Streifen und/oder für 'Tuffets'...sortiert nach hell/mittel/dunkel.

I had so many leftover 2" squares/strips from the quilt I made for my cousin and also some halfway finished 54-40-or-fight blocks. So I started playing with them (no plans made) and came up with this little table runner (and there are still many four patches left...):

I had so many leftover 2" Quadrate/Streifen von dem Quilt, den ich für meine Cousine genäht habe, sowie einige halbfertige 54-40-or-fight-Blöcke. Also hab ich angefangen mit den Resten zu spielen (ohne einen Plan) - das ist dabei heraus gekommen (und es sind immer noch einige Four Patches übrig):

I only added some of the background fabric for the sashing strips from my stash. It isn't quilted yet - I have to pick up some batting when I'm the next time at my local quilt shop. Hmmm...maybe I should have ironed this flimsy before taking a picture.

The box is still quite full. So I pondered what to make with them. Simply sew them together? Nope. Nine Patches, Four Patches? Hmmm...better, but no, not now. 

Ich habe lediglich den Hindergrundstoff für das Sashing aus meinem Stofffundus (für größere Stoff-Stücke) genommen. Leider ist es noch nicht gequiltet, da ich noch Vlies besorgen muss, wenn ich das nächste Mal am Quilt Laden vorbei komme. Hmmm...vielleicht hätte ich den Table Runner vor dem Fotografieren bügeln sollen...ups!

Die Box ist immer noch ziemlich voll. Also habe ich überlegt, was ich denn mit den Quadraten machen möchte. Einfach zusammen nähen? Nö. Nine Patches oder Four Patches? Hmmm...schon besser, aber nö, nicht hierfür.

In between my musings I looked in my rss feed reader and it happened that Little Miss Shabby had posted a new post. And then *tick tick* I remembered her beautiful Stashbuster Blocks. She even gave a tutorial for them (Stashbuster Block 1 - Block 2). And guess what? The blocks call for 1 1/2" squares - just perfect!

Während meiner Überlegungen hab ich ein bisschen in meinem Rss Feed Reader gestöbert und bin auf Little Miss Shabbys Blogeintrag gestoßen. Und dabei fielen mir ihre schönen Stashbuster Blocks ein, dass sie vor einer Weile - inklusive Tutorials (Stashbuter Block 1 und Block 2) - gepostet hat. Und ratet mal! Für die Blöcke werden 1 1/2"-Quadrate gebraucht - einfach perfekt!

So, the next time I get to play with my sewing machine, I will sure put some of these blocks together...I just have to resist to buy new fabrics because I really love the fresh, cheerful look of those fabrics...no, no, I shouldn't even think about it ;o).

Das nächste Mal, wenn ich wieder mit meiner Nina spiele, werde ich garantiert ein paar dieser Blöckchen zusammenbasteln...I muss nur aufpassen, dass ich mir nicht schon wieder neue Stöffchen kaufe...ich habe mich in die frischen, fröhlichen, farbenfrohen Prints verliebt....nein, nein, Ich darf gar nicht erst daran denken ;o).

Friday Fabric Focus - Castle Peeps

A while ago I discovered my love for the modern, fresh, but cute fabric...so when Lizzy House's 'Castle Peeps' arrived in the stores I just couldn't resist & had to have some peeps.

I love the blue colorway but the other two colorways are cute as well. The peeps & castles somehow remind me  of Disney films of the 1960's...namely '101 Dalmatians' and the background drawings of 'The Sword in the Stone'.

Schon vor einer Weile habe ich meine Liebe zu 'modernen', 'frischen', aber trotzdem niedlichen Stoffen entdeckt...und so konnte ich (natürlich) nicht widerstehen als 'Castle Peeps' von Lizzy House für Andover Fabrics in den Quiltshops dieser Welt auftauchten und musste auch ein paar Leutchen haben...

Ich hab mich sofort in die blauen Stoffe verliebt (die anderen beiden Farbrichtungen sind aber auch klasse). Die Figuren & Schlösser & Wimpel erinnern mich so an die Disney Filme der 1960er Jahre...'101 Dalmatiner' und vor allem die Hintergrundzeichnungen in 'Die Hexe und der Zauberer'.

Don't know (yet) what to do with them...I thought of squares with solid borders around them...

But as I am not (yet) able to cut into them it's okay for me that the plan has (yet) to evolve...

Ich weiß (noch) nicht genau, was ich mit ihnen machen werde...I dachte an Quadrate, die von unifarbenen Stoffen umrahmt werden...

Aber da ich (noch) nicht in der Lage bin, die Stöffchen zu zerschnippeln, ist es auch ganz okay für mich, dass der Plan für sie (noch) etwas reifen muss...

Vintage Memories BoM - all done!

Hmmm...I tried the flickr "blog it" function for the first time (by now I deleted the post that only showed the picture) - and I can't say I like it...you can't really edit a post before you send it & the format isn't the way I like it either (picture on the right hand side)...plus, there's only one picture per post...or did I miss something???

Hmmm...ich habe gerade versucht, die flickr "blog it"-Funktion zu verwenden (mittlerweile habe ich den Eintrag wieder gelöscht) ...naja, ich kann nicht sagen, dass sie mir gefällt...man kann den Eintrag nicht wirklich bearbeiten und nur ein Foto pro Blogpost einfügen, außerdem war das Format nicht so mein Geschmack... oder habe ich da etwas Grundlegendes verpasst???

Either way, what you probably alread guessed by the title - I finished the Vintage Memories BoM! I actually did on Tuesday, but I wanted to wait to get *somebody* holding up the top for a decent picture...well, as it's now Thursday I thought I better show you the one above because I had to send it to the (*gasp*) quilter...the first quilt ever I give away for quilting.

You can bet I'm pretty excited!

Can't wait for it to be finished...

Oh, and it's another *check* on my Charming Girls Club Goal list...yay! 

Egal, inzwischen sollte, wenn Ihr bis hierher gelesen habt, klar sein, dass ich den Vintage Memories BoM (Quilttop) fertig habe...! Tatsächlich war es schon am Dienstag soweit, aber da ich eigentlich ein vernünftiges Foto mit der Hochhalte-Hilfe eines gewissen Jemandes machen wollte, das Top aber zur (*ohmeingott*) Longarm-Quilterin schicken musste, gibt es nur das obige. Wenn schon Knitter, dann wenigstens dekorativ ;o). Es ist das erste Mal, dass ich einen Quilt quilten lasse.

Ihr könnt Euch denken, dass ich schon ziemlich aufgeregt bin!

Kann es gar nicht erwarten, dass der Quilt fertig wird...

Oh, und es ist außerdem ein weiteres *erledigt* auf meiner Charming Girls Club-Liste...jippiee!

Of course I couldn't resist and had to (temporarily) add the top to my lovely stack 'o' quilts.

Now it's on its way to the longarmer...please keep your fingers crossed that it will arrive safely (I know, I'm like a mother with her child leaving home for the first time...heehee).

Natürlich konnte ich nicht widerstehen und musste das Top (zumindest kurz) auf meinen dekorativen Quilt-Stapel legen.

Jetzt ist der zukünftige Quilt auf dem Weg zur Longarm-Quilterin...drückt bitte die Daumen, damit er heil bei ihr ankommt (jaaa, ich weiß, ich benehme mich wie eine Mutter, deren Kind flügge wird...hehe).

Blocks #8 & #9...and a visitor

I've finished blocks #8 and #9 of the Vintage Memories BoM and started assembling the setting blocks...my deadline is coming closer and I might not meet it...because my least favourite part about quiltmaking (if I had to name it) is to assemble the blocks to the quilt top...so I tend to procrastinate when I reach this point...but I do love the result though ;o).

Die Blöcke 8 und 9 sind mittlerweile fertig und auch die Setting Blocks habe ich schon genäht. Die Deadline kommt immer näher und ich befürchte, es könnte eng werden...das Zusammennähen der einzelnen Blöcke ist nämlich nicht gerade mein Lieblingsschritt beim Nähen von Quilts (wenn es eine Sache gibt, die ich dabei nicht soo gerne mag - außer dem Rückwärtsnähen (= Auftrennen) - dann das...und so kommt es nicht selten vor, dass ich es öfters ein bisschen vor mir her schiebe ;o).

 Who said that you're on your own while sewing!? - I had an obstrusive little visitor, who really liked my Nina...again and again ;o). I had to escort him (her?) outside, because friendly words had no effect!

Wer sagt, dass man beim Nähen allein ist!? - Ich hatte einen kleinen penetranten Besucher, der total auf meine Nina geflogen ist - immer wieder ;o). Ich musste ihn (sie?) schließlich persönlich hinausbegleiten, da halfen keine freundlichen Worte!

Friday Fabric Focus

It's Friday again, and because I love alliterations I thought I'll post another 'Friday Fabric Focus'...maybe this will even become a regular as I have MANY fabrics I love to share ;o)

Schon wieder Freitag, und da ich Alliterationen mag, dachte ich, dass ich einen weiteren 'Friday Fabric Focus' poste...was sich ja auch anbietet, da ich wirklich VIELE schöne Stöffchen habe, die ich gerne zeige...vielleicht wird das ja auch eine regelmäßige Sache...mal schauen... ;o).

Today it's just one fabric I love to drool over...fittingly, it's the 'Graph Paper' print of the 'Girl Friday' collection by Cosmo Cricket for Andover Fabrics. I accidently found it on sale and immediately fell in love with it...

I can already see it as background fabric for some cute stitcheries...!

Diese Woche ist es tatsächlich nur ein Stoff...passenderweise ist es das 'Graph Paper' Design der 'Girl Friday' Kollektion von Cosmo Cricket für Andover Fabrics. Ich habe den Stoff durch Zufall mal im 'Sale'-Bereich eines berüchtigten Online-Shops gefunden und war sofort hin und weg...

Ich kann ihn mir als Hintergrundstoff für Stitcheries vorstellen...!
