I've been a bit MIA in the last 3 weeks...
With a little bit too much work on my plate it was like I was constantly running after everything and never catching up. Plus, stress and no time to sew always causes serious crankyness (is that a word?) and in turn let my motivation to sew hit the bottom...which makes me even more stressed (a vicious circle!).
In den letzten 3 Wochen war es ganz schön still hier...
Ein bisschen zu viel Arbeit, dazu das Gefühl, dass ich permanent allen Dingen hinterher renne und immer trotzdem nur hinke. Dazu kommt dann, dass ich irgendwann Entzugserscheinungen zeige, wenn ich zu lange nicht mehr meine Nina habe schnurren lassen. Was wiederum dazu führt, dass meine Motivation, etwas zu nähen, gegen Null geht...und ich fühl mich dann noch gestresster (gargh, ein Teufelskreis!).
So it is no wonder that my anticipation to make a mug rug for my partner in the Scrappy Mug Rug Swap, Round 4 quickly turned into dread...especially as I had some problems to "get" my partner. You know, sometimes it isn't just the insecurity of sewing something for another, but you have absolutely no idea what to make.
Kein Wunder also, dass meine Vorfreude auf das Mug-Rug-Nähen für den SMRS#4 ganz schnell in sowas wie Grauen umgeschlagen ist...vor allem, weil ich so gar kein Gefühl für meine Swap-Partnerin hatte und daher auch keine Idee, was ich machen wollte.
On Sunday, one day before the international shipping date I hadn't time for excuses anymore.
After about a month (felt more than a year) pondering on what to do I started sketching my idea:
Am Sonntag, einen Tag bevor der MR spätestens abgeschickt werden sollte, hatte ich dann keine Zeit mehr für Ausreden. Nach etwa einem Monat intensiven Überlegens hab ich endlich angefangen, meine Idee aufzuzeichnen:
What I need most these days (and I'm assuming I'm not the only one, so maybe my partner, too?) is time for a little break...to breathe...to recharge the batteries.
And what says "relax" more than a lazily stretching cat? Getting the cat appliqué & the flying geese right took me quite a while but eventually (after more than 2 hrs) I was ready to go ahead.
Momentan brauche ich gaaaanz dringend ein bisschen Zeit für eine Pause brauche (und ich gehe mal davon aus, dass ich nicht die einzige bin...vielleicht auch meine Swap-Partnerin?)....und was liegt näher als eine faule Katze, die sich streckt? Es hat zwar einige Anläufe gebraucht, die Flying Geese und die Katzen-Applikation richtig hinzubekommen, aber irgendwann konnte ich dann tatsächlich anfangen zu nähen.
By now it was Sunday afternoon, I was alone at home and enjoyed Jane Austen's 'Emma' while happily paper piecing away the flying geese. And while listening to (rather than watching) the movie I slowly went from stressed to relaxed and happy.
Because the 'Henna Garden' prints make me happy. And flying geese anyway :).
Inzwischen war es Sonntag Nachmittag, ich war allein zu Hause und habe während des Nähens Jane Austens 'Emma' zugehört (naja, ab und zu mal gelugt, aber das macht sich in Kombination mit Nadeln in der Regel nicht so gut :) ); und langsam wurde aus gestresst ein bisschen relaxed & glücklich.
Denn die 'Henna Garden' Prints machen mich glücklich. Und Flying Geese sowieso :).
This time I refrained from my usual straight line stitching or stippling and dived into free motion quilting...lol...not really, I just tried another simple shape which I always wanted to try and found quite perfect for this little mug rug. Oh, and the appliqué was added only after the quilting.
Diesmal habe ich auf das ewige Stippeln oder Straight Line Quilting verzichtet und habe (endlich!) mal ein anderes Free Motion Quilting Muster ausprobiert....wie ich finde, perfekt für den kleinen Mug Rug. Ach so, die Katze wurde erst nach dem Quilten mit der Maschine appliziert.
And to break out from the old routine, I chose to add (take away???) rounded corners on two sides.
The binding is a 1 3/4" wide continuous double fold binding...
Und um auch mal bei der Form etwas anderes auszuprobieren, habe ich an zwei Seiten die Ecken weggenommen.
Das doppelte Binding ist mit 1 3/4" relativ schmal...
And of course there has to be a label...! Could it be your name that was erased here?
Das obligatorische Label darf auch nicht fehlen...! Könnte das Dein Name sein, der da wegradiert wurde?
I know I'm patting on my own shoulder, but I really like this mug rug & it was somehow sad to let it go. And I'm not even a cat person :).
Mir ist schon klar, dass das jetzt stinkiges Eigenlob ist, aber ich mag den Mug Rug ziemlich gern & ich war ein kleines bisschen traurig, ihn ziehen zu lassen *schnüff*.
Und ich mag Katzen noch nicht mal :).
I've added some German fabrics and chocolate and by 11 p. m. everything was ready to ship.
Can't wait for the envelope to arrive at my partner's home.
Zum Mug Rug sind dann noch ein paar deutsche Stoffe und Schokolade gekommen und um 23 h war alles bereit verschickt zu werden.
Ich hoffe, der Umschlag kommt ganz schnell bei meiner Swap-Partnerin zu Hause an.
Oh, and this is what I put together as a (rather ecclectic) inspiration mosaic...I'm curious what my swap partner will make out of this :).
P.S.: sorry, this has become quite a novel, but I am so happy to have something to tell that I wanted to savor it :)
Oh, und das war mein Inspirationsmosaik für den Swap...ich bin schon gespannt, was meine (andere) Partnerin daraus gemacht hat :).
P.S.: 'tschuldigung, das ist fast ein ganzer Roman geworden...war nicht geplant, aber da ich mich so gefreut habe, endlich mal wieder etwas zu berichten zu haben, konnte ich nicht widerstehen :)
